Comparing Pokemon Stats Made Simple

Every Pokemon has six base stats — HP, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed — plus a base stat total that sums them all up. These numbers determine how a Pokemon performs in battle: how much damage it can deal, how much it can take, and whether it moves first. Comparing stats side by side is one of the best ways to choose the right Pokemon for your team, especially when you're deciding between two similar options.

How to Use the Stat Comparison Tool

1

Search for a Pokemon

Type a Pokemon's name or Pokedex number into the search bar and hit Enter. You can also click Random to add a surprise pick.

2

Add Up to Four Pokemon

Build your comparison group by adding up to four Pokemon at once. Each one appears as a card with its full stat breakdown.

3

View the Bar Chart

Once you have two or more Pokemon, a side-by-side bar chart appears showing who excels in each individual stat. The highest value in each row is highlighted.

4

Check Percentile Rankings

Each stat includes a percentile ranking (like P75) so you can see how it stacks up against every other Pokemon in the Pokedex.

Understanding Base Stats

HP (Hit Points) determines how much total damage a Pokemon can absorb before fainting. Attack powers up physical moves like Earthquake and Close Combat, while Defense reduces the damage taken from those same physical hits. On the special side, Special Attack fuels moves like Flamethrower and Psychic, and Special Defense softens the blow from incoming special attacks. Finally, Speed decides which Pokemon moves first each turn — in a close battle, that one extra point of Speed can make all the difference.

What Percentile Rankings Tell You

A percentile ranking gives you context for how a stat compares to every other Pokemon in the game. If you see P75 next to a stat, that means the value is higher than 75% of all Pokemon. A stat at P90 or above is exceptional, while something around P50 is perfectly average. These rankings are especially helpful when you're looking at a Pokemon you're not familiar with — instead of guessing whether 80 Attack is good or bad, the percentile tells you exactly where it stands.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are base stats?

Base stats are fixed values assigned to each Pokemon species that represent their raw strength. They range from 1 to 255 for individual stats, and they never change regardless of level or training. Think of them as a Pokemon's natural talent.

What is a good base stat total?

Most fully evolved Pokemon fall between 400 and 600. Legendary Pokemon often exceed 600, and Mega Evolutions can push past 700. A total above 500 is generally solid for a non-legendary Pokemon.

Why compare Pokemon?

Comparing stats helps you choose between similar Pokemon for your team, understand where one has an edge over another in specific matchups, or simply satisfy your curiosity about how your favorites measure up against each other.

Can I compare legendaries to regular Pokemon?

Absolutely. The comparison tool treats every Pokemon equally, so you can see exactly how a legendary stacks up against a starter or any other Pokemon. It's a great way to appreciate just how wide the stat gap can be.
